08/96 - 12/00: Stay-at-home father, Web student |
In addition to caring for my son, born in May 1995, I became familiar with the Internet, initially with a DOS computer via a Unix shell account, later with Windows 95, Windows 98, and BeOS. I taught myself HTML and the use of several graphics and audio programs, and created four Web sites:
JPSongs.com offers a musical biography, and links to all my other Web sites, including my MP3.com page, www.mp3.com/johnpollock.
Troubador Tech is the Web's first (and, so far, only) site devoted to technological tools and tips for the one-person band, based on my personal experiences as a musician. I designed the site for quick downloading, and created all of the music files and graphics.
The Troubador Tech site led to an invitation from Twelve Tone Systems, Inc. to participate in beta testing the company's original Cakewalk Guitar Studio, digital audio recording and mixing software designed specifically for guitarists. My feedback was part of the basis for improvements in Cakewalk Guitar Studio 2, which I also beta tested by invitation.
Diary of a Mad Househusband is a repository of rants, raves, ruminations, reminiscences, reflections, and reviews, primarily chosen from my posts to various Internet message boards.
Symmetries by Syrynx presents digital art and music I created specifically for the Web. I created all of the static and animated tiled graphics and the MIDI music in canon form by combining files with copies of themselves which have been processed in various ways.
